17 December 2007 > > The day I started my new job at ESCF. New job, bigger role, bigger tasks, bigger responsibilities. I report directly to my boss, LLX. She is a nice lady. She makes me comfortable. She tells me not to be afraid to ask my other 2 partners should I have problem. If I find them busy, I can directly ask her, she's OK. Oh, I am still using the same initial: MBS :) On the very first day, I decided to lunch in well.. because my 2 partners wants to lunch in so they brought me to the food court at the basement level of the Gateway East building and so I bought whatever I want to eat and went upstairs.
After my lunch, I was still in the office.. and walked over to the Trademarks & Design department (My department is Patents - International Filing; there are 4 patent departments!) to look for Kak Marni. :D When I saw her I said 'Hi' to her and with a smile, I asked, "Smlm tgk?" (I was referring to the RESULT SHOW of ASIAN IDOL - 16th Dec 2007: A date TO remember!) Kak Marni smiled and answered, "Tgk." I was already feeling excited. "Suka kan dia menang. I mcm org giler kat rumah! Heehe" Kak Marni also laughed. And u know what? She was on HALF DAY leave on that day. YES, half day leave. She took half day leave for? Heehe.. Go to the airport to WELCOME BACK OUR ASIAN IDOL WINNER! Too bad, I just started work, so I cant go :( so I convey my regards for Hady to Kak Marni. Well, she cant promise she can convey my regards to Hady coz there will be LOTS OF PPLE in the airport.. I know.. I watched the news. :D
18 December 2007 > > ECSF having a Christmas Party. I was overwhelmed with the response from ECSF. They're all bunch of fun and loving pple! Very lively and friendly. My boss came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Eat more. U gonna like the food." U sure I did! Wahahaha... But of coz, I should know my table manners.. Dont gelojoh.. unless I'm at home! :D Guess what? I was kinda surprised! I was new, only on my 2nd day and yet I saw my Christmas present under the Christmans tree! Yeah! The Christmas present has my initials on it: MBS, MERRY XMAS! Guess what was the present?
Cute right?
My work as of from 17 December till now, is OK. I am still learning and I am coping well. Patents not that hard after all, once you know the facts. As I stated in the previous paragraph, in Patents, there are 4 departments. 1) Patents (Mechanical and Electrical), 2) Patents (Chemical Life Science), 3) Patents (Formalities: First Filing & Grant) and 4) Patents (International Filing)
All I know while I was at D & B, there are lawyers doing in patents, which is an invention and to prevent infringement. But in ECSF, I learned a different thing. I thought u need to be good in engineering to invent something, to think, with science and technology, u could too! INTERESTING. Will update more on what I have to do in my department.
I make friends on the very first day. Unlike my first day at D & B.. All eyes were on me! They have this thought in their mind, "Why is she here? This is not a good company. Why she come here?" Hahaa.. How would I know that D & B didnt give bonus? While I was having interview, the management didnt tell me that. Not only D & B.. All companies will not disclose whether they do give bonuses or not during interview. My first few days in D & B was way 100% very different from ECSF. Hey, I'm not condeming D & B, I am stating the facts. The staffs of D & B they neva layan newbies. When SU came in, and I layan her...they stared at me until their eyes want to pop out! I related this to Abg Sofian, an ex-colleague who has resigned from D & B in July 2006 why are they behaving like that. He told me, I mustnt take it too heart.. Its normal. Thats explain why he didnt want to talk to me on my first day too, he also scared! *eyes rolling*
Secondly, remember PW from Accounts department invited me over for lunch and from there, I got to knw B and J. From there, we became friends. That one also D & B staffs got a problem! Their principle is: to mix with pple of the same department.. When they got to know those 3 pple wish to befriend me, most of them were asking among themselves: why must make friend with our department, and why must be MBS they make friends." *smacks forehead* In ECSF, I can see that they make friends with all pple from all departments. This is what I call good office environment!
But in ECSF, I am treated very nicely. They didnt boycott newbies. They talked to them, they smiled at them, they are all friendly! and not a bunch of busybodies like those pple in D & B! Yeah! I applied for leave and I must state the reason. Plus when I applied for leave, it is not done manually like in D & B. In ECSF, everything is computerized. So when I applied for leave through ECSF intranet system, it will be reflected to the intranet database and everyone can access it and will know who will be on leave on when etc. My name was reflected as a staff taking leave on 17 Jan 2008 and 18 Jan 2008. NO ONE in ECSF came to me and ask, why am I taking leave... NOT EVEN my 2 partners! NO! Unlike busybodies staffs in D & B, one by one came up to me and asked, "MBS, cuti ker per on so and so..." I just give a 'cant be bothered' smile. They wont stop till they get answers to their questions: "Gi mana ah / Mana ajer kau nak pergi / Ada apa / Best sey amik cuti ... " I can go crazy u knw!
ECSF staffs dont bother! I take leave or urgent leave, they dont bother; its ur personal matter, its ur own leave. I like that kind of environment and I visioned that I can work at ECSF longer than at D & B. I endured 1 year 9 mths at D & B.
So on my first day, I make friends with my 2 partners, VLH and SMA. SMA was my junior in sec school! Yeah.. No wonder she looks familiar! She used to be overweight but now she's very slim! How did she manage to do that.. I'm gonna learn some guidelines from her. I make friends with this guy, SAR.. also a new staff but a few days earlier than me, he's in the Patents (Formalities: Grant) department. Not forgetting, I make friends with NJM (from the mailing department - she joined on the same day as me), NAM & MNN (both from Patent - Mechanical and Engineering; NAM is training MNN coz MNN is also kinda new staff and she has to serve 2 bosses! LWW and RAH unlike NAM who only serve one boss: PSY) and I will make friends with more staffs.. I have to take time, there are about 113 staffs! (of coz I can be friendly with all of them but to make friends not all la..heehe)
ECSF has 4 Patent departments, Renewals department, Accounts department, Records department (Records is like data entry job like that la) Trademarks & Designs department and Administration department (Mailing, HR, I.T and Marketing). So there's a total of: 11 departments! 11 deparments located at 30th and 37th floor of Gateway East.
I am still in search of a part time job. Yes, to clear my debts. All thanks to the stupid scams! I went for an interview for a part time job today and I clinched it! I am offerred and I will be starting on Monday, after I ended work. The job? Part time telemarketer. Dont worry, I wont call you to sell you stuffs. They dont do selling. They make appointments. Hmm.. sounds tedious but I can give it a try. Basic is $5 per hour and commission $8 per hour per deal. Means.. For example: I worked for 5 hrs, 5 x $5 = $25, within those 5 hours I clinched 4 deals = $8 x 4 x 5 = $60. I earned $60 plus $25 = $85 in just one day.. How attractive is that?
I have my motive for working part time. 1) To recoup losses from those stupid scams, 2) To help my mother. She has rheumotoid ahritis and cant work anymore, she is now on 1 month unpaid MC. 3) Just to earn something extra for me. My full time salary has to deduct $330 for CPF. If I work part time, I can earn that $330 or more to recoup the deductions. *evil smile*
Yeah, so I'll be starting on Mon and another weekday then plus Sat and Sun.. Minimum days to report to work for part timers: 4 days.. If we want to work for 5 days, by all means.. I would love too but my grandmother lah! She's afraid I will fall sick, will get tired.. Duhz.. *eyes rolling* She really sayang me alot lah.. so I cant complain. *big grinz*
