I send in my application to both RODYK & DAVIDSON LLP and ELLA CHEONG SPRUSON & FERGUSON at the same time. ECSF has called me for an interview. Rodyk hasnt. Guess what? P/S: REMEMBER I BLOG IN SEPT THAT THE EXAM - WA301: STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT which I retook it for Sept exam because I failed the paper in January exam and the Sept exam is tougher than the one in January and I feared I may failed again? I PASS!!! WHEE!!! YIPEE!!! PHEW! So left 1 more to go: WA206: Business Finance (I hate this subject!) and my FYP (final year project).
I am offered a secretary position at Ella Cheong Spruson & Ferguson (ECSF). The salary they offering me is the same as in Donaldson: $1650. I've mentioned before if I am offered $1650 and above, I will take it. Besides, they have a vacancy in the Patents Department. I have ZERO knowledge of Patent. So, $1650 starting pay for doing patents is considered high to me. Should ECSF has vacancy in Trade Mark, definitely I will be offered a higher salary; maybe $1700 (the expected salary)
Finally, my prayers has been answered. My grandma has always want me to have a secretary position. I am contented that I can make my grandmother happy. And I know I am delighted coz I am soon going to do PATENTS. He also does PATENTS in Rodyk *winkz*
Coming to the decision of accepting ECSF's offer at the end of the year, doesnt come easy! Tell me, where in the world do u apply a job at the end of the year? Everyone wants to wait for the year-end bonus, then once they received the bonus, they search for another job. I am the weird one. I know. Some of my colleagues cant understand me. I cant blame them. I cant understand myself sumtimes too.
Only 2 colleagues know that I got this job and they advised me to think thoroughly dun mendesak. One of them suggested to wait till I've completed my final exams which will be in January; 18 January 2008. The other one suggested to wait for year end bonus; though it wasnt much.
Have I blog here before that Donaldson didnt give bonus? I mean, YES THEY DID entitle their staffs to bonus BUT QUARTER MONTH BONUS = 1 WEEK BONUS = 7 DAYS BONUS. They also do not have the 13th month bonus! How pathetic is that? So I dun mind to let go of the bonus to pursue a new career in ECSF. However, I heard that since the management of Donaldson has changed, Donaldson may be entitled to 1 month bonuses. The lawyers are proposing to TBH and ATBL, the 2 lawyers who manages the firm to increase the bonuses because a few good staffs left. The lawyers have the perception that staffs left because: NO BONUS. I dun know what was the main reasons other staffs left, but I dun care! Its their choice.
So when I heard that Donaldson may increase their December bonus to at least 1 month, I thought, "Why not I wait till bonus? I have never get the taste of bonus. Maybe this could be my very first chance." So I called ECSF if I am allowed to start in January instead as I wish to wait for the bonus.
However, they cant wait for me any longer because they really in need of people. I was informed by them that there were only 3 suitables candidates shortlisted for the interview. Out of the 3, they chose 2 and then narrow down to 1 >> me. If I cant commit myself in mid December (required by ECSF), then they have to offer the position to the other candidate because I understand that the other candidate, though qualification is not as high as me, experience wise (almost same as me: 1 year 6 or 7 mth, mine is 1 year 8 mth) she is available in end December and they have to accept her because she is able to start earlier than me.
I think it through. I consulted my family members. My mum advise me not to wait for the bonus from Donaldson. The opportunity has come and opportunity only comes once, so grab it. I agreed with her. Hence, I've decided and I am going to leave Donaldson. Dun care whether Donaldson is really going to give 1 month bonus. Like I've mentioned before, I have started working since 2004 and I never taste a single bonus to me its OK - I am already used to it.
Once the decision is made, I have to focus and concentrate on the new job. Pple who has done patents would know how tedious and tough is the procedure. I must think positively. I must be positive. I must have the confidence that I can do patents just like trade marks. I started with zero knowledge in trade marks at Donaldson & Burkinshaw and I also have zero knowledge in patents. I will gain knowledge in patents at ECSF just like how I gain knowledge in trade marks at Donaldson.
I have given my resignation letter yesterday. 14 December will be my last day in Donaldson. Dun forget I still have 3 days left. If these 3 days can be offset, my last day will be 11 December. I still spend my birthday in Donaldson. Teehee..
I was kinda surprised that LST know I wanted to tender. The moment I stepped in his room, I hadnt even took out my letter and he blurted, "U want to resign rite?" I dun know what to say and I just nodded and hand over the letter to him and he uttered a thanks. I thought of waiting but he said that I can go. Hah! I KNEW IT!
Kalau bangsa dia nak resign, dia pujuk mcm nak gila. Bila org melayu resign, dia SUKA dia tak pujuk pun! I know coz 2 chinese colleagues had left >> PT left Donaldson to join Rodyk, CGN left Donaldson to go to A & G. He called PT in for a few times to persuade him to stay. PT insisted in leaving for a better offer in Rodyk. He did the same to CGN and CGN too insisted in leaving for A & G. As for me, he didnt even bother to persuade me not to leave.
Do u know Donaldson perduli apa if u have diploma or even a degree? As long as u are not bangsa Cina, they dun give a damn about u. When bangsa dia surf internet or talk on the phone and not doing much work tak kena warning.. when org melayu was caught doing that, ada warning >> sampai block certain websites! Whats this?! I HATE RACISM! K, had enuff. I have till 14 December (maybe 11 December) in Donaldson. Will try to speed up and complete my back logs as much as I can. I have a feeling that my replacement will be bangsa dia juga. He doesnt wish to take in anymore melayu...

My step cousin-in-law works in Gateway Law Corporation. Gateway Law Corporation and Ella Cheong Spruson & Ferguson are associated with each other (the director of ECSF is also the director of GLC *smilez) But GLC does not do Intellectual Property only ECSF. GLC does Corporate and commercial.
Hmm, am I entitled to leave while serving 2 months probation in ECSF? As u all know I have my final exams in January, and I need 2 days leave for that, 1 day for study and 1 day for taking the exam. At Donaldson, while serving your 3 months confirmation, you are allowed to take leave. In ECSF, I can take unpaid leave - deduct my salary. Ok.. no prob. As long as I can take my leave.
Many ask me why I wanted to leave NOW? Well, NOT all Donaldson colleagues know that I am taking my degree. Well, let say I am still working in Donaldson AFTER I've graduated. While looking for a job for a degree level, of course I have to work in Donaldson first. And what would my position be? CLERK (when pple asked what was my profession, I rather mention: secretarial support or admin assistant). Can u imagine a degree holder >> CLERK?!
So, now I got an offer in ECSF as a secretary, if I cant get a job after graduated from my degree, at least, my profession: secretary. Doesnt sound too degrading for a degree holder... In fact, it sounds respectable.
I want to make a promise to myself. I will prove to the management of Donaldson that I can do it in ECSF. I will also gonna prove to those pple who spread this rumour, "MBS better stay here coz she can never survive in other plc with that kind of work attitude." I still remember those phrase and I am gonna make sure I will prove them WRONG!
