It wasnt my intention to job-hop after one year. But come to think of it, I want to explore more of the working world and make me think and behave maturely.
After working for 10 months in this law firm, I sumhow felt that I have to move on and worked elsewhere. No, IT WASNT BECAUSE OF DA OFFICE POLITICS, neither was it becoz of sufficient experience. It's becoz of da pay.
Hey, I KNOW EARNING $1600 is ALREADY ENUFF. But come to think of it, if u neva see ur money tree grow, u definitely wanna move on and seek for other job prospect. Why am I saying this?
Well, have u heard of AWS or even bonus? Every year end, u will receive ur monthly salary plus ur company's 1 month or 2 or 3 or 4 (depends on how many months da company wish to give to their staff).
Do I get that when working in this law firm? NOPE!! I was sumhow disappointed. U know how delighted I was last year upon hearing that I will get my VERY FIRST PERMANENT JOB ever? Although this law firm is da 5th company I have worked in, it is also MY FIRST PERMANENT job.
My 1st job was as a KFC crew. That was part time, while still studying full time. 2nd job, was at APS, I was on a temporary assignment. Da 3rd job was at KCAP. A contract part time job. I was given an hourly pay. And if I work, I will get paid. If I am on MC or on leave, I wont get paid. Plus, there is CPF deduction. I brought home less than $600 every month when working at KCAP. However, da advantage is, I have flexible working hours. My working hours are scheduled like a time table. Sumtimes I came to work in da morning, sumtimes after lunch. But I have to work not more than 5 hous UNLESS otherwise stated.
My last temporary job BEFORE securing this law firm job, was at NAS - National Archives of Singapore. I thank GOD for answering my prayers when I received a call from a lawyer (da boss of this law firm I currently works in - TM Dept) informing me that I was shortlisted to come for an interview.
And I got da job. Time passes by very fast and I am already working for 10 months. In December, sum of u will be thinking, "Wah, Maria.. Ur salary $1600 definitely for Dec bonus, u will bring home say, $4800" ( that is, my salary plus 2 months bonus)
HAHAHAHA... Like, I'd mentioned, there isnt such things as AWS and bonus in da law firm I am working for. Have u ever heard of 7 days bonus? No? Well, I DO... YES. This law firm I am unfortunately working for practise that. They gave quarter month (1 week = 7 days) bonus to their staff!!!
And also like I had mentioned, I wanna see my money tree grow. Bringing $400 extra on top of da $1600 (pathetic quarter month bonus plus my salary) isnt enuff for me. Can u imagine, if I were to work for another 2 years, other pple would have about $10K in their money tree now. But not for me coz I dun receive 2 or 3 months bonus.
Hence, I started sending out my resume after weeks of calculation. Yes. I do my own mathematics and accounts on how much will I have in my bank account after 31 December every year. I had always want da amount in my bank account to reach at least $3K (of coz THIS IS AFTER DEDUCTING EXPENSES SUCH AS HANDPHONE BILLS, INTERNET BILLS, SPCA GIRO DONATION, NKF GIRO DONATION and MY MONTHLY SCH FEES). If I were to work in this law firm for another 2 years, and after deducting for da above expenses, I dun think I will have at least $3K in my bank account - BECOZ DA LAW FIRM didnt provide their staff incentives such as bonuses and increment!
So, I wish to "get out" from here and seek elsewhere. I send out my resume onlines to various companies including other law firms. I know I should have wait till da year 2008 when I got myself that piece of paper with my name on it. With that piece of paper with my name on it, I can seek for better job offers - those with degree requirements - but I need to plan financially for myself. Other working pple who are studying part time still have some cash to spent with. How come I dun? So, I have to start planning. Da only way is to send out my resume and hopefully, 1 or few companies called me up.
Which it does happen. Next week, on Monday 5th February, I will be attending an interview. Da requirements for da position : Diploma and above, With/Without Experience. I am qualified and that's why they called me for an interview.
Well, dun get too excited.. It was ONLY an interview. They may or maynot call me again for another interview. I am keeping my finger cross for this.
