Yesterday was da day. Da LIVE telecast of da GENERAL ELECTIONS 2006 result just rocks my socks. By now everyone will be aware of da election results:- Singapore's ruling party won a majority in parliamentary elections Saturday, signaling continuity in the city-state's mix of economic success, social stability and tight political controls. Final results showed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's People's Action Party (PAP) winning 82 of 84 seats in Parliament, including 37 seats it captured automatically before the election because da opposition did not contest them. (One of them is WEST COAST GRC, where i am staying). Da results are also available on CNA's website as well as in da mainstream media. It is clear tat there has been a large downturn in support for da PAP. All da PAP incumbents were returned with reduced majorities. Tis includes PM Lee Hsien Loong, who was returned wif only 66% in his constituency of Ang Mo Kio, against a team comprising entirely of first-timers frm da WP (WORKERS' PARTY). As usual, taken from CNA: As all of u and me knw, da last 2 seats were won by da opposition. Chiam See Tong retains his seat in Potong Pasir GRC and Low Thia Kiang too retains his seat in Hougang GRC. Tis time round, they won by a much bigger margin as compared to da last GE in 2001. I kinda envied some friends and cousins of mine. They are first time voters for da GE 2006. Like, I'd said in an earlier paragraph, WEST COAST GRC is a walkover as no opposition wish to contest in them. Hence, tat means, I do not have da chance to vote.Maybe not yet. But wat if I am forever stuck at Clementi (WEST-COAST GRC) and all along it is gonna be a walkover for every election. . will I ever get da chance and da experience to vote? Sigh.. My cousin and Fadhil had cast their votes for SEMBAWANG GRC (Sembawang GRC was a walkover in GE 2001), Ayu had done her part for ANG MO KIO GRC (led by our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong), Fa for Pasir Ris- Punggol. I did sms her asking how was da experience.. I guess she wasnt much into politics, like me, because she answered, "Like tat la, nothing diff!" *smilez* Hmm.. I'm not sure if Nazrul had to vote or not. I msg him but I guess he's busy or couldnt be bothered to reply to my once in a while msgs.. He's staying in Bedok Reservoir, I guess, he could be casting his vote for JOO CHIAT GRC/EAST COAST GRC/ALJUNIED GRC/TAMPINES GRC... My other friends like Seri, Rosliah and ex-classmates/schmates staying in Clementi/West Coast, since its a walkover for WEST COAST GRC, they are not liable to vote. Ainn too does not need to vote as Holland-Bukit Timah, juz like WEST COAST GRC is a walkover all along. Faridah who has moved to Jurong West too did not require to vote. I think hers is under Hong Kah GRC and it is a walkover too!! Finally, Suresh, staying in Pandan Gardens.. Dr Tan Cheng Bok, MP for Ayer-Rajah GRC.. won da walkover. Suresh too, not require to vote. :) I believe wat my cousin said to me via sms last nite. I am still young. One fine day, there will be a chance for me to vote. INSYA-ALLAH.
