I juz started my new job and it was kinda easy. Hehe.. Well, da seniors said tat newcomers must start wif da easiest first b4 tackling da hardest part.
As a Temporary Conservation Assistant, I have to be responsible for carrying out conservation processes on archival and library materials, as well as other private collections for its long-term preservation. I am required to carry out mechanical cleaning and treating insect infestations and mould growth, chemically treating degradations, repairing and binding of damaged archival and rare library materials. In addition, I have to assist in mounting of exhibitions and signcrafts and demonstrate conservation processes to visitors in the lab. It is also important to maintain general cleanliness and tidiness of both wet and dry-processing area.
Tat was wat I learnt yesterday. More briefing abt my job. The Archives Conservation Lab consists of dry unit and wet unit. Yesterday, I was stationed at dry unit doing da above job scope (in italics)
But for da first week, I will be train to do conservation processes on archival and library materials for long term preservation, repairing torn pages.
First day of work, I met new friends.. They approached me first. Hmm, mayb becoz I looked like their age but i'm not.
one of them: "So u r waiting for A level results?"
I shook my head.
Continue to ask: "den waiting for O levels results?"
Again, I shook my head.
Curious, asked: "Den."
I answered, "I am a Diploma holder graduate."
Another question: "How old r u?"
I replied: "I juz turned 22 last month."
Shock look on each of their faces. And one of them comment, "u dun look like ur age." Hah.. Heck care. Tons of pple had comment on da same issue too, so I dun take tat as a shock or compliment anymore. I look young, so wat?
Yahoo! I dun have to go for work today coz its HARI RAYA HAJI. Da supervisor said to me, "Tmr holiday. Wah..so gd, ur first day of work, tmr holiday already." We both laughed.
