Bits n pieces frm 30th June: "Being a teacher has been my AMBITION SINCE THE DAY I ENTERED SCH LIFE. There are lots of things to consider when someone had chosen to be a teacher. Teaching is not just a job we can take lightly. Teaching is something that requires your ultimate heart & dedication. Teaching is etc etc etc...."
Dear Sir/Madam,
The National Institute of Education (NIE) is the training institution for teachers in Singapore. Application for admission to the programme leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Education must be made online through the MOE website at http://www.moe.gov.sg/teach. (Postgraduate Diploma in Education: PGDE is NOT a Diploma BUT degree!! Cool!!)
Applications are accepted throughout the year, but it is advisable to submit applications at least three months prior to the intake for which you wish to be considered. Only short-listed applicants will be required to attend the interview. (Wat? Still have to be shortlisted??!!)
The interview panel will assess your communication skills, interest in teaching, goals and aspirations, and your willingness to learn. (Hmm..tis is tough.. I have no confident to say i have excellent communication skills, if writing and reading skills - OK lah.. Interest in teaching, OF COZ I DO! I LOVE to teach! If not, y i do i waste my 8 months in year 2001 of being a teacher for? Is to get da experience..Goals and Inspiration..havent and cant think of one yet.. Willingness to learn.. OF COZ man!! i love to pick up new skills here n there)
More importantly, you must have the passion to teach (Of coz i do have da passion to teach! if not y da hell i waste my time for tis research?!) and the belief that you can make a difference.
If selected, you will sign on a bond with MOE as a teacher and be sent for full-time training at the NIE during which you will be paid a monthly salary, as an employee of MOE. (Ni yg aku tak suka ni.. muz sign up a bond? Oh no... if failed.. tak mampus aku kena bayar?! Hmm.. still GIVE UP is not my middle name..)
To be considered for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), applicants should have at least a degree from NTU, NUS or other universities whose degrees are acceptable to the education service of Singapore. (I am now currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Admin - Marketing frm University of Wales, United Kingdom. Once i graduate... will tat particular degree acceptable?? hmmm...)
The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme is of one academic year's duration - an academic year consists of two semesters. It leads to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education, with specialisations in primary or secondary education. (If i were shorltisted, I prefer to teach da primary level)
Trainee teachers specialising in Primary/Secondary Education are further sub-divided into two categories: "General" and "Language Specialisation". The PGDE (Physical Education) programme is of two academic years' duration. (who wants to teach students PE? I dun like PE!!! Forget it!) It leads to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education with specialisation in Physical Education at the Primary/Secondary level.
Upon completion of the 1-year training, you will be deployed to teach in schools, whereupon you will begin serving a 3-year teaching bond. (Hmm, so total=4 yrs? Ok)
Any further information on the programme can be obtained from our NIE's website (http://www.nie.edu.sg/html/itt_pgde.htm). If you have any other queries regarding the application, please visit the MOE's website (www.moe.gov.sg/teach) for more information.
Thank you

So, my mum n myself acted as gurantor for my cousin, if in any events, Nadiah failed - OF COZ, SHE WONT! I HAVE CONFIDENT IN HER - me n my mum had to pay da bond if Nadiah cant pay. Woah.. Nadiah, dun fail. MUZ PASS. Coz aft i graduate, it will be MY TURN TO APPLY. *winkz*
Nadiah, said to me: "Hopefully can teach Science." Yeah, i knw her. She loves Science so much. She is Amateur Mad Scientist.. Lol. She graduated from Diploma in BioTechnology from Singapore Polytechnic. She took Pure Biology and Science Combination of Physics and Chemistry back during O levels in CRESCENT GIRLS. Tat explains y she loves to teach Science.
Anyway, my mum overheard my conversation wif Nadiah n now she knws y i wanna study degree - want to be a teacher. She said, y didnt i applied right aft i graduate wif Informatics Diploma in computer studies. I told her, my application was rejected coz maybe Informatics is a private institution. But my cousin said, "Den try again. Look at me, it took me ONE YEAR den i got it. My 3 applications to da NIE were rejected n tis is my fourth one. So u have to keep trying."
Hmm..i think i will. I will apply again wif my Informatics Diploma (in fact, i am already at their online application form page *smilez*) n den lets see how. If still unacceptable, have to wait till Sept 2007 - end of my 2.5 yrs course, wait for da graduation process den can apply. Hope it is accepted so tat i can show to those shallow pple out there tat a "selenger" gal like me, has a great profession!
